Reese’s Law, enacted in the United States in 2022 with full enforcement taking effect in March 2024, was introduced to protect young children from the serious and potentially fatal risks associated with the accidental ingestion of button and coin cell batteries. The legislation sets stringent safety requirements for the design of battery enclosures on consumer products sold in the US market, establishing a clear standard that manufacturers must meet to ensure products are safe.
This commitment to product safety extends far beyond North America. When Australia implemented its own strict, world-leading battery safety standards in June 2022, 4iiii proactively ensured its designs were fully compliant. With this forward-thinking approach, 4iiii was already engineering child-safe enclosures long before US enforcement began.
When Reese’s Law went into effect, the brand acted immediately, deploying compliant battery clips to prioritize safety without disrupting the supply chain. This new design meets all existing laws including the upcoming European Union legislation. Listening directly to user feedback, 4iiii has successfully transitioned away from the external clip system. The drive-side and non-drive side units now feature a seamless, fully integrated plastic design that is just as sleek and user-friendly as it is safe - proving that uncompromising safety standards do not have to come at the expense of elegant design.
